Br@cken KTM 560 SMR Trophy

This coming season sees a new and exciting road race series hitting the Uk race tracks.

It will be an even cheaper series to compete in than the successful KTM 660 Cup that has run for the past 2 season's, why ? I here you scream. Well for this year there is no tuning permitted apart from being able to replace the exhaust and air box. This should give around 60BHP at the rear wheel. Bikes will cost £3650 and are available from Bracken immediately.

The series will run on control tyres (slicks and wets), prices available soon.

This great new road race series, with a twist, will run with the New Era Club and also, here's the twist, with NoraSport, the supermoto race club.

The provisional calander is as follows;

18th May - Brands Hatch (New Era)

31st May - Three Sisters (NoraSport)

21st/22nd June - Pembrey (New Era)

5th/6th July - Brands Hatch (New Era)

26th July - Lydd (NoraSport)

16th/17th August - Castle Combe (New Era)

14th September Brands Hatch (New Era)

4th/5th October - Cadwell Park (New Era)

1st November - Cadwell (NoraSport)

Any pre 2008 tuned KTM 450 SMR will also be eligible to race in the series.

More details will appear here soon, or you can call Jon at Bracken on 020 7232 1814

A bike has just been race prepared by KB Racing, pictures and tests in the press soon.

9th August 2007  Sigma Slipper Clutch

KTM Super Duke slipper clutch by Sigma Performance

Sigma Performance Ltd are pleased to announce the immediate availability of a slipper clutch to fit all models of the LC8 KTM Vee twin.

The prototype was tested on Pauli Pekkanen’s machine at the Donington round of the KTM Superduke series.  On its debut it helped Pauli to pole position and the race victory.  The same prototype clutch was in the bike for the Mallory round allowing Pauli to finish second and he now leads the championship.

In addition to helping control the bike on a race-track, improving both lap-times and rider safety, the slipper clutch mechanism will greatly smooth down shifts on the street making the whole riding experience much smoother.

The new clutch retails for £468 plus VAT and uses the standard plate pack and 6 x Suzuki GSXR1000K5/6/7 springs.  Full fitting instructions are provided.

Contact Neil Spalding or your local Sigma Performance stockist for further information.

Snetterton Timetable, Snetterton Final Instructions, Snetterton Paddock Plan

15th May 2007

Dear Super Duke Battle Rider

After a very positive start to the KTM 990 Super Duke Battle Season at Silverstone we move onto the Snetterton Double header this weekend.

Silverstone went off reasonably smoothly for a first of its kind event with some very close racing in both races, a few technical problems which were all sorted out and a few crashes which is bound to happen I guess!

For Snetterton I hope that we can all build on the positive start, we will have the KTM Race truck over from the Austrian factory, which will hopefully be closer to where we are parked in the paddock and will have refreshments available for KTM riders and their teams.

Please ensure you all have your tyres for the meeting. As stated in the regs, any tyres purchased within one week off or at the race meeting will cost £200 per set and not the discounted £166. This was not enforced at Silverstone but will be at Snetterton.

All tyres must be ordered at least a week prior to the race meeting and must be sent out to the rider. We do not have the capacity to bring tyres to the circuit for everyone.

Please ensure you have heat resistant foil in the belly pan to prevent them from burning through if fitted tight to the exhaust

There have been one or two problems with the seat cowlings breaking their mountings. To try to minimize this it is now permitted to move the cowling back by up to 35mm and secure to the seat by drilling and bolting directly to the lip of the seat. Depending on how much you move the cowling back, you may need to enlarge the key recess.

There will be a rider/team briefing at 10am on Saturday morning in the KTM hospitality awning, please make sure you all attend.

That’s it for now guys, see you at Snetterton, please note there is no extra practice session on Friday, our first session on track is 9am on Saturday, for the full schedule/timetable and paddock layout plan please click on the appropriate link on the BrackenRacing.com website.

Best Regards

13-04-07 Details and Entry Form

Dear Competitor

The KTM 990 Super Duke Battle is nearly upon us and things are moving on apace now. Belly pans, engine case covers, swingarm fins and R&G Racing crash protectors are coming into stock in the next few days.

Most of you have by now been out testing on the new Continental Race Attack tyres with very positive feedback coming through from all of you. One or two have had the chance to test the rain tyre, again with very positive feedback.

Due to KTM dealer and rider feedback, I am pleased to advise that the fuel tank and radiator shrouds can now be used for dealer or rider personal sponsors, provided that the KTM logo is displayed on the lower part of the radiator shroud. The KTM logo should be in either black (Pantone BLACK 6 C or RAL 9005) or orange (Pantone 1585 C or RAL 2009) and should be a minimum of 12cm long x 6cm high.

Riders can use their own graphics suppliers or use Albemarle Graphics in London (020 76395148, ask for Phil) who have patterns for all graphics already on file.

All competitors should be registered with the MCRCB for the series by now and must also fill out the attached entry form, which must be sent to Bracken MW Ltd 2 weeks prior to each meeting.

See you at Silverstone

Best Regards

Iain

20-2-07 KTM Press Release

Can you handle the

Super Duke Battle?

If you want a slot on the grid of the most exciting one-make series of 2007 then get a move on, as time’s running out and there’s not many places left.

You can enter the Super Duke Battle series now and get hold of your KTM 990 race machine with the payment of a £1000 deposit to any official UK KTM dealer, but the final deadline for entries is at the beginning of April when the entire £6500 for the machine will be due. You will need to purchase the mandatory race kit for £1300 and also have the chance to buy a spare wheel kit with discs costing just £700, from series co-ordinators and long standing KTM dealer, Bracken Motorcycles. A major factor in keeping the costs down is the fact that the bike is yours to keep after the series.

Then you’ve got until the first round on April 28th to get yourself and the bike into gear, so you’ve got time to get the bike tuned within the regulations, get the suspension set up and have some practice on your awesome KTM 990 Super Duke race machine.

All you need to bring is your Full Clubman licence (or above), entry fees, fuel and get yourself some super sticky ContiRace Attack tyres. The overall series winner gets one of the fantastic recently launched 690 Supermotos. Second place in the series wins 10 sets of tyres courtesy of Continental and third place wins a KTM Minibike. Continental will provide trophies for the first three riders at each round with the race winner receiving a set of tyres, second place gets a rear tyre and third place gets a front tyre.

Shaun Sisterson, Managing Director of KTM UK comments: “We’re all so excited about the Super Duke Battle this year. It promises bar-to-bar racing on almost identical bikes, which will provide some outrageous racing at such prestigious events as the British Grand Prix. With only a few places available we’re hoping to fill up the grid to ensure the competitors and fans get the maximum amount of fun possible but at the same time making it as affordable as possible for the riders.”

With the bikes being almost identical, it will be your own riding skills that will determine the outcome. So, can you handle it?

Race dates:

Races 1 and 2 - April 28/29 Silverstone
Races 3 and 4 - May 19/20 Snetterton
Race 5 - June 24 Donington Park (British MotoGP)
Races 6 and 7 - July 22 Mallory Park
Race 8 - August 27 Cadwell Park *
Race 9 - September 23 Donington Park
Race 10 - October 14 Brands Hatch

Which equates to seven events and ten championship races.

28-11-06. ContiRace Attack Tyre Test, Calafat, Spain

On November 28th myself and ex-British Supersport and reigning Bracken KTM 660 Cup Champion Dave Heal travelled to Calafat in Spain to test the hot-off-the-press ContiRace Attack tyres for the first time. Weather was good for testing, around 16-18 degrees C, dry and bright. Having not been to the little used circuit before, Dave spent the first few sessions finding his way round the tight and twisty track with not the greatest run off on some of the corners!!

In the afternoon the pace was upped and times were logged. With the KTM 990 SuperDuke being shared with a German bike mag journo, who is covering and riding in the equivalent German SuperDuke series, and a regular Conti tyre tester, time was fairly limited. The next day we tried out a couple of different profiles on the front and compounds on the rear. The narrower profile on the front led to a bit of instability on the brakes, so we are opting for the wider option. We also tested a softer rear tyre than the first day and, although lap times remained fairly consistent the tyre did not appear to have the life of the harder compound.

“The tyres were great, predictable and safe, which is what you need for a one-make series. The life of the tyre is excellent with no drop off in performance. I’m looking forward to racing on the ContiRace Attack’s next year” said Dave Heal.
Further testing will be done in January and February, with the track being made available to any rider signed up for the series to go down to Spain and get some warm and dry (hopefully) track time.

So, tyres and sizes for the series as follows:
120/70ZR17 ContiRace Attack Medium Compound
180/55ZR17 ContiRace Attack Endurance Compound

Recommended Tyre Pressures (in Bar)
Front: 2.1 – 2.3 (higher gave better steering, lower better over the bumps)
Rear: 1.8 – 1.9

There will also be Conti Wets for the series, we did see the only two sets in existence, but couldn’t try them out, it didn't rain!! Basically they look very similar to Pirelli wets
Tyres go into production in early March, more details as they happen.
